Applications of linear programming in education to address key challenges

Author(s): Ambuja Vishwanath Joshi

Abstract: Linear Programming (LP) is a mathematical optimization technique applied and widely utilized in several other domains. For education, LP forms one of the most powerful tools to solve complex decision-making problems mainly on issues regarding resource allocation, scheduling, and policy formulation. This paper deems it crucial to explore various applications of linear programming within education, structured mainly toward identifying its potential outcomes in optimizing efficiency, equity, and results. The paper illustrates the contribution of LP to the betterment of educational systems at the micro and macro levels through examples.
